7. Activities to practise geometry in the plane - Universe themed 🌠

In the universe, geometry is used to describe the shapes and structures of astronomical objects, such as stars, planets, galaxies and galaxy clusters (FerrΓ‘ndez Izquierdo, n.d.). For example, geometry is used to describe the shape of the Earth and its relationship to the Sun and Moon in the solar system. It is also used to describe the structure and shape of galaxies, such as spirals and ellipticals.

But how can we implement geometry in the plane relating it to the Universe? Here I propose a series of ideas to do this in class:

1- Building models of planets: Ask students to build models of the planets using geometric figures on the plane. For example, they can use a circle to represent the planet and triangles to represent the craters.

2- Spaceship design: Ask students to design spaceships using geometric shapes on the plane. For example, they can use triangles to form the wings and circles to form the windows.

3- Constellation research: Ask students to research constellations and shapes that can be found in the night sky. They can then use these shapes to create drawings or geometric patterns on the plane.

4- Developing a miniature planetarium: Ask students to work in groups to create a miniature planetarium using geometric shapes on the plane. They can use circles to represent the planets and triangles to represent the constellations.

These activities will not only help students understand the concepts of plane geometry, but will also allow them to explore the theme of the universe in a fun and creative way.
